Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the state’s Sector Commander, Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, said the validity of the old number plates would expire on Sept. 30.
“I can assure you that from the first day in October, car owners still going about with the old number plates would be apprehended for violating the order.
“The cost of changing over from existing old number plates to the new is cheaper than if you are to obtain fresh number plates for cars that are to be newly registered.
“I, therefore, urge the public to ensure that they change over to the new number plates before Oct. 1,” he said.
Ogagaoghene also added that the command was planning an enlightenment campaign for motorists ahead of the ‘ember’ months.
`` We are going to kick-off the rally early in the month of September and we intend to emphasise the need to drive cautiously during this period.
“During the ember months, which cover September to December, traffic will usually increase and this is known to pose further challenge to motorists and other road users.
“It would be nice for travellers to plan their journeys ahead of time and for motorists to be considerate bearing in mind other road users,” he said.
